Magnets for Industry & Industrial Sourcing
What is a magnet?
A magnet is something that is made from materials that create a magnetic field. Magnets have at least one north pole and one south pole.
What does a magnet do?
There are several useful functions that a magnet has. Magnets attract metals, such as nickel, iron, steel and cobalt and magnets also attract magnets at opposite poles and repel magnets at like poles. Magnets also are able to change electrical energy without ever losing their own energy.
What is magnetism?
Magnetism is the force of attraction and repulsion between objects.
What is a magnetic field?
A magnetic field is the region around a magnetic material or moving electric charge where a magnetic force can be detected.
What are magnetic poles?
Every magnet has at least two points, called poles, and this is where their magnetic strength is concentrated. Poles are called north and south since they position along north-south planes.
How do you make a magnet?
There are a few different methods used to manufacture magnets, including:
  • Calendering
  • Casting
  • Compression bonding
  • Extruding
  • Injection molding
  • Pressing and sintering
Can a magnet get weaker?
Yes. There are a few reasons why the magnetism is a magnet can weaken. If the magnet is stored near other magnets, close to heat, close to radiation or near strong electrical currents, it may lose its strength. Neodymium magnets can become corroded if they are in an area with high humidity.
If a magnet has lost its magnetism, can it be re-magnetized?
It will depend on how much magnetism the magnet lost. Most magnets can get back their original strength, unless they were exposed to extremely high temperatures.
Can you make a magnet stronger?
If a magnet has been fully magnetized, that is the strongest it can be.
What is the strongest kind of magnet?
The strongest magnets are Rare Earth magnets.
What is a Rare Earth magnet?
Rare Earth magnets are a group of magnetic materials that have alloys consisting of one of more of the Rare Earth Elements. These magnets have extremely strong magnetic properties.
What is an alnico magnet?
Alnico magnets are made mostly from aluminum, nickel, cobalt, copper, iron and sometimes, titanium. They are great for high-temperatures usages.
What is a ceramic magnet?
Ceramic magnets are composed of iron oxide and strontium. They are charcoal gray in color and usually are usually lighter and more brittle than metal alloy magnets. They also have a high electrical resistance.
What is a magnetic assembly?
Magnetic assemblies are up to 32 times stronger than a regular magnet and they are usually made from ceramic magnets.
What are permanent magnets made of?
Permanent magnets are made from alloys and alloy materials include:
  • Aluminum-Nickel-Cobalt (Alnico)
  • Neodymium-Iron-Boron
  • Samarium-Cobalt
  • Strontium-Iron (Ferrite or Ceramic)
